Ian Watson started his career as an apprentice draughtsperson initially working in Electro-mechanical design. His flair for concept design followed by project management allowed him to work on aircraft systems and develop a career in engineering through three decades. This success came from a lifetimes interest in model making, woodworking and aviation.
Working with his wife Christine, a painter and designer,in the 70s, they developed a hobby, inspired by their children, creating a range of small wooden toys. Larger items later evolved, including robust wooden lorries and ‘crazy’ Dolls’ Houses.
Ian works from his studio workshop at Burloes Farm set in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Chiltern Hills in North Hertfordshire. The Studios are open by appointment and for the ‘Open Studios’ event each year in September as part of the Hertfordshire Visual Arts Forum (HVAF).
Following his career in Electro-mechanical design Ian returned to his model making and wood-working skills and produced his first model house since the 80s, this is the magnificent Tudor House which has now become his trademark.
